What we do

Community consultations for input into policy

The VIRWC undertakes face to face community consultations around timely issues and just about any issues immigrant and refugee women have. The VIRWC contributes to policy development and/or changes by writing submissions and/or participating in inquiries.

Representations to increase the profile of immigrant and refugee women and their concerns The VIRWC is an active participant in numerous community consultations, forums and conferences organised by government and non-government organisations.

Mentoring and Skills training

VIRWC members undertake mentoring to assist those who only need additional support, knowledge and skills to be able to use the Australian systems. VIRWC also partners with organisations able to deliver skills training to its members and wider ethnic communities.

Celebrating women's diversity

The VIRWC organises social activities such as celebrating International Women?s Day annually to provide fun and relaxation to immigrant and refugee women.

Lobbying and advocacy

The VIRWC undertakes direct lobbying and advocacy of immigrant and refugee issues to mainstream community, service providers and governments. When necessary, it sends delegations to relevant Ministers and heads of government departments to ensure access and equity for immigrant and refugee women.
