.jpg) Jeanette Hourani migrated from Lebanon in 1988.
Over the past twenty years in Australia, Jeanette worked in a number of community organizations focusing on resourcing and supporting women and children. Highlights of this long career were her 10 years at the Royal Women’s Hospital’s Women’s Community Links at Broadmeadows and 5 years as Access and Equity Officer at the Domestic Violence and Incest Resource Centre.
In 1992, she founded and ran an Arabic Women’s radio program “Voice of Arabic Women” on Radio 3CR for 6 years as a volunteer. Her hard work paid off when she secured a job as a Journalist/Broadcaster on SBS Radio from 1998-2003.
Jeanette Hourani was the winner of the 2007 ‘Hume Inspiring Teacher’s Award’ for the Early Years. Jeanette works with families and children from culturally diverse backgrounds by providing resources and training to families and service providers in the City of Hume and other municipalities.
Jeanette is experienced and passionate about working with women and children from diverse cultural backgrounds. She is an advocate for empowering them to be part of the wider community, continue their education and ensure their access to services.
Currently, Jeanette works as Playgroups Program Coordinator at the Victorian Co-operative on Children’s Services for Ethnic Groups (VICSEG New Futures) and Project Coordinator of “Women Making a Difference” project at Dianella Community Health.
